ACLAPA 2018 – Invitation!

Our next conference will be in Sydney from 4-6 May 2018.

On behalf of the Australasian Cleft Lip and Palate Association (ACLAPA) Executive, as part of this third and final call for abstracts you are invited to attend the 12th Australasian Cleft Lip and Palate  Association Conference, to be held at Doltone House Jones Bay Wharf, Sydney from 4 to 6 May 2018.

The ACLAPA Executive have organised what we hope will be a very enjoyable and stimulating educational programme with a theme of Quality and Team-based Care. There will be a focus on the essential contribution of dental practitioners in the care of individuals with cleft lip and palate and craniofacial anomalies, a strong program of  presentations from highly regarded international plastic surgeons and for the first time a nursing/ burden of care session. A separate pre-conference speech meeting has been arranged on 3 May. Please contact David Fitzsimons for details.

Dedicated time for the Australasian Cleft Audit study (ANZCleft) has been set aside on 5 May and we give notice that we will be holding the ACLAPA AGM also on 5 May and that all current Committee positions will be available.

We are delighted to announce the following guest speakers and extra sessions.

Our International speakers include, Professors Brenda Louw and Linda Vallino who will present on the importance of transitioning our patients from     paediatric to adult facilities. Mr Brian Sommerlad and Mr Robert Mann will present the management of the cleft palate and velopharyngeal incompetence.     Professors Christopher Forrest and John Phillips from The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto will discuss robotics in cleft surgery and cleft orthognathic surgery. We also have a special guest Dr Francis Smith who has a vested interest in craniofacial embryology.

Our national speakers include A/Professors Richard Widmer and John Winters, and Dr Albert Tan (dental specialties), Professor Clare Collins (physical activity and nutrition), David Fitzsimons (speech pathology) Professor Andrew Heggie and A/Professor Jocelyn Shand (oral-maxillofacial surgery), Dr Hayley Herbert (ENT), Dr Tony Roscioli (genetics), Dr Linda Campbell (psychology) and Ms Basia Hamden (speech and dysphagia).

Parents and support groups are welcome to attend on 4 May—please advise your parent support groups.
